In recent years there has been a resurgence of interest in this method of construction, I am sure we have all seen various examples of modern green oak framing on the Channel 4 programme Grand Designs. The ability of this method of construction to adapt to the needs of the 21st century is testament to its versatility.
Modern mechanised methods of production including Computer Aided Design can be utilised to ensure a modern well built structure. However from a purist’s point of view some of these modern structures offer only a superficial nod to tradition.
Here at Oakhouse Construction we only use traditional techniques that carpenters and house wrights from yesteryear would instantly recognise. These techniques, methods and skills are not easy to master and are rarely if ever taught in a modern carpentry apprenticeships. However through study, research and specialised training courses we retain these “lost skills” and are proud to be able to offer these to our clients.
So if you want tradition built into your green oak project we are all you need to know.
